The purpose of the current CHC COG-ACH correlates meta-analysis was to synthesize the relations between cognitive abilities (as organized per the Cattell- Horn- Carroll theory of cognitive abilities) and school achievement.
It is important to recognize that school learning is a complex process and a student's cognitive abilities represent only one part of a complex puzzle that includes instructional/environmental variables, as well as other individual difference variables (e.g., motivation, self-efficacy, etc.).  Recognition of this larger "big picture" is illustrated in another IAP project...Beyond IQ.  Check it out.
